چکیده

The effect of suboptimal maternal nutrition on lactational performance of 23 Navajo women was studied in terms of milk volume, milk composition, and infant growth. The mean milk volume produced by 10 Navajo women was 634 ± 1 13 ml/24 h after approximately 1 month of lactation. The content of protein, lactose, and lipid were within normal limits. Retinol and carotene content were 32.9 ± 15.7 and 19.7 ± 6.3 sg/dl, respectively. Milk folacin averaged 56.4 ± 23.9 ng/ml. The mean contents ofzinc, iron, and copper were 2.8 ± 1.1, 0.8 ± 0.6, and 0.3 ± 0.2 mg/I, respectively. Despite evidence of suboptimal nutritune among these Navajo women, lactational performance was adequate in terms ofinfant growth, milk volume, and milk composition with the exception of vitamin A which was lower than normal. The Effects of Macaroni Wastes and Steam-Flaked Barley Feeding in Transition Period on Health and Lactation Performance of HolsteinCows

Thirty two multiparous Holstein cows were used in a randomized block design to investigate the effects of feeding diets included two different source of nonfiber carbohydrate during the transition period on dry matter intake (DMI), lactational performance, blood metabolites and parturitional characteristics. Cows received total mixed rations containing either macaroni wastes(MW) or steam-flaked...

Sources of variability in lactational performance.

Variation in lactational performance comes about as a result of variation in the nature of the animal, its environment, or with time. Table 1 lists a variety of sources of variability, classified under broad headings of variation with the animal (species, breed and individual), with time and with various aspects of the environment. The list is probably not comprehensive, but even so, it contain...

Calcium Supplementation Ameliorates Cerebellar Oxidative Stress in Lactational Aluminum-induced Neurotoxicity in Rats

Introduction: The neurotoxic effects of aluminum exposure during the critical period of neurodevelopment have been well documented. This study investigated the known protective effects of calcium supplementation on the cerebellum of juvenile Wistar rats following aluminum-induced neurotoxicity during lactation. Methods: Four groups of juvenile rats were exposed via lactation to distilled water...

Interactions between major nutrients in the diet and the lactational performance of rats.

The effect on lactational performance of replacing feed carbohydrate with fat at two different protein levels was studied. Lactating Sprague-Dawley rats with a standardized litter size of thirteen pups were allocated one of eight feeds containing either 300 or 150 g protein/kg organic matter (OM) and ranging in fat content from 100 to 550 g/kg OM from day 2 until day 14 of lactation. Daily food...
